Description
New Jersey Steel Baron is proud to announce that we are now the distributor for Hitachi metals for the western hemisphere. We excited to be able to maintain an inventory of these quality Japanese made alloys as long as supply and production will allow.
Our first parcels of Shirogami (White Paper #1) and Aogami (Blue Paper #1) have arrived. This first stock run is all meant to finish at 3/8” and ¼” thicknesses coming in at .305 and .430 oversized thickness respectively.
Both the Aogami and Shirogami will be offered in sheets at 6.125” x 36” lengths. In the interest of inventory management we will be offering two ways to purchase these alloys.
Aogami, or Blue Paper #1, is an excellent steel famous for its use in Japanese cutlery for years. Also known as Ao-Ko or Ao-ichi-ko it is a high carbon bearing (1.3%-1.4% C) exceptionally clean steel (P <=.025% / S <=.004%) that will do well in many edged tool applications . Many Japanese smiths and makers utilize it in custom cutlery and knives of all types. Known for its fine edge holding, ease of use and ability to hit an HRC of 65 while being simple to maintain. Be sure to either patina finished work or instruct your customers to do so.
