Intro to Blacksmithing

This class introduces students to the fundamentals of traditional blacksmithing through hands-on forge work and guided instruction. The session begins with a review of basic blacksmithing terminology and a brief look at the history of the craft, providing context for the techniques that follow. Students will learn core forging methods used by blacksmiths for centuries, applying them at the anvil while working through several small projects. Instruction focuses on controlling hot steel, using hand tools effectively, and understanding how traditional techniques translate into finished work. A short overview of ornamental and architectural ironwork rounds out the class, highlighting where these foundational skills are commonly applied.
