Intro to Bladesmithing

This class is a full introduction to the bladesmithing process, guiding students through the key steps involved in forging a functional knife from steel. You’ll start with a brief review of blade terminology and design concepts before moving into forging the blade at the anvil. From there, the class covers heat treatment, grinding, and sharpening, with each step demonstrated and reinforced through hands-on work. A short, practical lesson on the metallurgy of blade steel helps connect the process to the material itself, giving context to why each step matters.

Class Level

This class is beginner-friendly and designed for students with no prior bladesmithing experience. It’s structured to balance hands-on forge time with clear explanations of the fundamentals behind the work. By the end of the 4.5-hour session, each student leaves with a finished knife and a solid understanding of the core techniques and concepts used in bladesmithing.
